5 years and a half marathon!

Well today this stupid site has been up and running for 5 years. I don’t know whether that is good or bad. Pathetic maybe? It is what it is I guess.

Yesterday after training since early December I finally finished a race that gives a medal, the Papillion Half Marathon. Things didn’t go as I had planned for the others, getting canceled by a snowstorm or not being able to do it because of injury. The race went pretty well considering that I had only run a total of 9 miles in the last 3 weeks. It was an ok course, kind of hilly in places but you have to expect that in the Omaha metro area I guess. I only finished about 6 minutes slower than my first one and a couple minutes of that was waiting for a porta potty to open up. I liked how it finished in the stadium with the guy on the loudspeaker saying your name and lots of people cheering you on as you crossed the finish line. There weren’t all that many people entered in the half, less than 300, so it really made me feel slow finishing in the bottom 20% of that group since people get so spread out that you wonder if you are almost in last place. Well I didn’t finish last in either overall or my division (I came damn close though). Here is a link to the results. I was kind of disappointed that they gave a finishers coin instead of a medal but it’s all good. It was a pretty fun race and was organized pretty well. I think the half is long enough for me since I’m tired of being hurt. I’m going to pull back on the running some. I am starting the P90X program today to see how well that works. I’m even going to take the before and after pictures to see if there’s any difference.
