I came in 2854th place…

in the Lincoln Half Marathon. I did about how I expected to but I was hoping I would overachieve a little bit. It was not to be however. I didn’t sleep good last night at all and got home later than I wanted to. I didn’t eat the pasta last night like I was planning which is supposed to give you a easy supply of energy, and instead ate shitty bar food at Hoops bachelor get together. No booze last night though which sucked because I was in the mood to do a little drinking when most times I could take it or leave it.

It took me almost 10 minutes to get to the starting line after they shot the starting gun. There were lots of people cheering throughout the whole race route which helped a lot. There was even a guy wearing an Elvis outfit cheering. The run wasn’t really that bad until I got past the ten mile mark which is no surprise since the most I ever went in training is 10 miles. Towards the end I started getting some stomach cramps and my knees and calves were hurting really bad (still do as I write this). I managed to just beat in the full marathon winner who came in through the gate right after me after running twice as far in the same amount of time. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or what. Kind of makes me feel slow you know? Then again I should be in all his finish photos. Hopefully I ruined them by making a funny face or something. Hoop’s lady came in about a half hour ahead of me. It looks like she finished in almost the top 10% of her age group and gender. Hoop tell her I said congratulations on that. I finished in the bottom 20% of mine. Hooray for below average!

Now on to the Havelock Charity Run in a month and the Duncan Ironman starting next week. I’m going to take most of this week off though. Maybe I can write about something other than shuffling around and sweating. I always think of little topics to write about but always forget what they were before I get around to doing it.

Anyway here’s the stats.

All the photos are up. I got 2 of them taken in the official photos that they want you to pay for. I actually like one of them so I might get one. I’ve posted them below.

  1. I’ll make sure to pass on the congrats. You did good too. I can’t walk 12 steps without my knees hurting. Did you happen to raise your arms up in the air when you crossed the finish line so that it looked like you beat him?

  2. I don’t think so, I forgot about raising my arms so I could get a good picture at the end, I’m pretty sure I just had a pained goofy looking face as I struggled to go faster because I didn’t want to be the first guy who was lapped by the winner of the full.
