Knock on wood.

Well we are down to one car, last weekend Jessica’s purple PT decided to poop the bed and dump all it’s coolant on the ground after I started it up to warm it up so I could go home at 10. I ended up having to have Jessica drive in to pick me up and I limped the car out to the far end of the parking lot at work where a tow truck could get to it if need be. I couldn’t even see where it was coming from because the engine compartment on a PT is so smushed together, they obviously designed the car for its looks first and then figured out how to fit its mechanisms into that shape as an afterthought. I did a bit of research and my best guess was that the water pump went. Since I’m no expert I was at best 51% sure of that though. What I did kind out was that replacing the water pump in a PT is a huge pain in the ass to fix, is very time consuming even for an experienced mechanic, is expensive to fix, and requires the replacement of the timing belt at the same time because they are sort of integrated together. Luckily I know some people at work who do auto work and have their own small used car dealership who was willing to come out and take a look at it in the parking lot and they confirmed my suspicions to around a 98% certainly. I just was talking about major expensive things happening in life with a guy at work and I had to go and say that I haven’t had anything like that happen in quite a while (knock on wood). The very next day this happened so obviously knocking on wood doesn’t carry at much weight as it used to. My first instinct was that I didn’t want to throw any money at this car since it doesn’t quite meet our needs and it isn’t worth all that much. I thought it would be a good idea to just get something else that does. I think it’s more of a thing that I hate the car than anything. We made a halfhearted attempt at looking for something new and it was a horrible experience. After thinking about it, financially the smartest thing to do is just to get the thing fixed since buying any sort of semi new vehicle that isn’t already used up costs a fortune that we would rather use for other things like upgrading the house. So that’s the story, we are down to one car until they can get it fixed, we did decide to at some point in the near future to get some sort of beater truck as a third vehicle that I can use to haul and tow stuff and can be used as emergency stopgap transportation if one of the other two daily drivers goes down. I can use it to haul stuff back home from the home improvement stores for all the projects I’ve got lined up on the house now that we have money saved up for those projects.

I’ve got a half marathon next weekend and I am woefully unprepared for it. I don’t think that I’ve even done half the training that I’ve had scheduled for it but I’m still going to run it anyway. I’m more prepared for maybe a mediocre 5k than I am for a half marathon. Oh well, I’ll finish it even if I have to walk half of it, which I most likely will. I just can’t get in the training groove where I love going outside to run, I did a very slow 8 miles today and I think I could have walked faster. I just need to get serious about training instead of slacking off.

  1. Just saying “knock on wood” doesn’t always work…you have to actually knock on wood. (Riiiiiight…) Had to comment on here because you have the comments shut off on your site. I’m sure Jessica will let you know, since you don’t look at facebook (sorry your car took a crap Jess!).

  2. I did knock on actual wood, still didn’t work. Not sure why the comments were turned off, but I turned them back on. Maybe I bumped a button or something. Also when you comment here on Facebook it imports them and shows them as a comment on the website so I will see it even if I don’t look at Facebook.

  3. Also it appears that only 3/4 of the post on the website went through, there was probably an error when uploading it that caused the comments to be turned off as well. I fixed it.

  4. Man that sucks!! Joe is trying to get my explorer running as we speak. It decided not to start last night. Did it the other day, too. No fun. Good luck with it and all your future projects!!!

  5. Ok it does look like you got it fixed…I was wondering why you stopped in mid sentence. Anyway, I hope the car gets fixed fast and it doesn’t cost that much. Good luck finding a beater truck, one that doesn’t break down for you.
