We’ve had good news on the house that we missed out on last month, the people that beat us to it by a day weren’t able to go through with the buy because they had a rural improvement loan which isn’t allowed to be used on places that need flood insurance (which this place does because a creek is at the rear of the property). We saw it come available again and we made our move on it. They wanted $120,000 but after some back and forth we got Fannie Mae down to $112,500. We had the inspection last Wednesday and everything went pretty well, there were a lot of piddly things wrong which is to be expected on a repo’d house but nothing severe that would keep us from moving in and doing nothing for a year or two if we needed to. There are some bigger stuff that needs to be done in the semi near future like a new roof and a new garage door but for now they are still functional. Hopefully we will be closing on it on July 5th and we are pretty excited about it. There will be a good amount of work to do to really make it our own but it’s work that will be spread out over a long time frame. It’s got good bones to it though and we love the location and the layout and the plan is to make it our permanent home unless something extraordinary happens to change that plan down the road. I would like Alexander to not remember living anywhere else during his youth and be stable in the same place and the same school. He’ll be a Norris Titan which is one of those schools that they built in the middle of a random cornfield in the country and all the kids from the surrounding small towns go there. It’s not a done deal yet though, I don’t foresee anything happening but the process is still winding it’s way through all the stuff that needs to be done. Today I spent more time trying to find a more affordable homeowners insurance policy price, no sense paying more than you need to, just wish it was an easier process to compare the different companies.
I gained back all my weight that I lost in about a month and a half as soon as I stopped paying attention to what I was eating and stopped exercising and slipped back into bad habits. It isn’t the first time it’s happened but it sucks that I did it again because I was feeling really good when I got my weight back down and I stopped looking so much like a melted candle when I took my shirt off. Skinny-fat is not an attractive fat… I guess no fat is all that attractive come to think of it, baby fat is cute I guess… on a baby. Anyway, I’m back at it, tracking my diet and not eating crap (as much, moderation is the key) and I’ve got another half marathon this weekend in Norfolk which will be very rough since I’ve barely run in the last month and a half. The nice thing about the new place is that there’s plenty of space for a workout area which is in the formal plans for the future, by that I mean a room that’s decked out like a mini fitness center so we can easily stay in shape without having to go anywhere. For now it’ll be a treadmill set up in the basement though. All in good time I guess.
Congrats on the house, and you got a really great deal on it too! It’s so fun to think of all the potential for a home; almost too much for me at times, as I change what I think might be my style so am hesitant to commit! How many bedrooms/bath is it?
I love your thinking about it being the only home you have; the memories you’ll build! Don’t you wish it came with a memory book of its own, so you knew more about the original owners?!
Looking forward to your home updates and pictures! Enjoy every step of it!
Love,
Kim
In the finished are upstairs there’s 3 bedrooms and 2 baths and in the unfinished basement there is an additional finished bedroom and a technically working bath (the fixtures are hooked up but that’s about it). The basement is more potential than anything right now but it’s usable space for whatever we want to make it into in the future.
Congratulations again on the house! And by the way, the finished bedroom in the basement sounds like the perfect guest room for grandma to come and visit!
