Vacation is nice.

I’ve been on vacation since last Tuesday and it’s… just wonderful. I’ve spent the vast majority of my time off work in sleeping pants just lounging around or napping, much to the chagrin of my lovely wife who would appreciate me being more productive around the house and with the boy. Unfortunately the end of my lounge around lifestyle is quickly coming to an end when I have to go back to work, a day early in fact because I have to go in to conduct interviews for the new guy we are hiring. Fun fun. It’s another thing that I personally don’t care for doing if you have me a choice, but have to care about because I got the job. There’s lots of little minor headaches that I am still getting used to having to deal with that I didn’t have to care about before, but overall I like the new position.

We took Alexander to Sesame Street Live last Friday, I can’t imagine being one of the performers in that show, wearing the nasty sweat soaked costumes and doing the same dances while lip syncing to the same soundtrack night after night after night. I guess if you are looking to make a living in the entertainment industry you’ve got to start somewhere though, at least it’s steady paying work, I have to imagine that they are trying to get out and move on to the next thing as soon as possible though. Alexander only cared about seeing Elmo out of all the characters which I don’t really get. I know I’m getting old but when did Elmo become the main attraction of Sesame Street? I don’t even think he was around back in the day when I was a kid, and now they have all these characters that I don’t even recognize, there’s one that apparently does magic, and some Indian (dot, not feather) one was one of the main characters in the live show that we watched that I’ve never seen before ever in my life. For the most part Alexander liked the show and we almost made it through to the end which is pretty impressive for him because he doesn’t really like to sit still for such a long time. We ended up leaving right before the end when he wouldn’t sit still anymore and he only had a small meltdown as we were leaving the arena.

The next morning I had my first race of the year, the Animal Run right here in Hickman. I did bad… like really really bad. I ran the five mile race and I believe I came in third from last and I kept getting passed by old women and couldn’t reel them back in again when I tried to pass them. I haven’t been doing that well in my training at all, I can’t stand running on the treadmill and I’ve been very lazy when it comes to doing my training outside in the cold and it really shows. I’ve got a half marathon to run in about a month and a half that isn’t going to go well at all if I don’t kick it into gear. I even missed signing up for the Lincoln Half Marathon in May because I forgot about which date was the date that it opened for sign up and it sold out. Jessica and I did sign up for the brand new Good Life Halfsy in November that is being run in Lincoln, that sold out 3000 spots in about a day too. I can’t believe how popular running has become around here, it was just a few years ago when I started running and I think the Lincoln Half had 5000 slots that didn’t sell out for months, and now they are up to 12,000 slots that sell out in a day. It’s good news I guess that more people are trying to exercise and stay in shape, plus the more people that sign up, the more of a chance that I will actually beat a few of them instead of coming in last…

  1. Sounds like you have been keeping warm–not going out to run in this awful cold. I hate going the two blocks to get inside to walk in the mornings. But have to open the door so have to go. Having the key means I have to go.
Started going to Columbus to the Sr. Center for exercise classes. Found muscles I didn’t even remember I had! Ha. Not so sore anymore and really does make me feel better.
take care and stay warm. GMW
