Vegas part 3 – Hoover Dam.

On to day two of the Vegas trip. It was a pretty busy day and we were up extremely early because of going to bed so early the night before. I think I woke up at about 4 in the morning and had to kill time walking around because Jessica wouldn’t get up to entertain me. Did you know that there are still prostitutes walking around at 5am on a Tuesday morning in early January? I guess the town never stops so I don’t know why I was surprised. Maybe not surprised I guess, more concerned that she wasn’t wearing a coat and it was quite cold outside. I suppose cocaine and methamphetamines can keep the fires going though so I’m sure she was ok. After Jessica finally got up we needed something to eat and we had a little trouble there and ended up paying $18 for a sausage biscuit and some orange juice that tasted like butt. After that we vowed to stop by a grocery store away from the tourist crap to get some snacks to keep in the room to get away from the crazy prices a little bit. After eating we were off to downtown to be the first ones in the door at the marriage license bureau to get that taken care of so there wouldn’t be any problems. Out of all the people that have gotten married in Las Vegas the lady at the counter said that she had never seen anyone that had a credit card like I have with a picture of them and their significant other on it. She said it must be love and asked if there were any more like me. No… no there aren’t.

Then we were off to Boulder City and Hoover Dam. I guess it was a big deal that they finally finished the new interstate equivalent road and huge bridge that bypasses the Hoover Dam. It is really nice and smooth but the really sucky part is that when you drive over the new bridge you can’t see anything. Not the dam, not the reservoir, no view whatsoever because the side rails are completely solid and pretty high so all you can see is the road ahead of you. If you didn’t know where you were you wouldn’t even know that you were crossing a gorge or that any of that stuff was there. I suppose there is a safety aspect to it because the bridge is so large and high up that if you could see off the sides a lot of people might get vertigo and crash. Anyway we got off and got on the old Highway 93 that used to be the main road that goes over the dam itself and parked. I bet that was quite the clusterf*** when all that traffic was routed over the bridge with all the people walking around taking pictures. Probably good that they put in the new bridge to get the people through that just wanted to get to the other side and let the tourists do their thing in peace. Since we got lots of video of the dam I will post those and let them speak for themselves.

Videos below the fold, pictures in the pictures section…

Jessica showed me where she dropped the superball down last time she was there when she was a kid and I counted the seconds that it took for my spit to land while Jessica lectured me about not spitting. All in all I thought it was pretty neat since I already knew a little bit about it from watching documentaries on it’s creation. We didn’t go down into the dam itself because… well we just didn’t care enough to pay to do it I guess.

That’s all for today, more coming up soon!
